The People Who Keep
the Wheels Turning
A single pre-loved wheel, rows of uneven bowls, and years of muddy evenings later — this is our studio.
Our Story
One Lane, One Kiln, Plenty of Patience
Inkwell Lane opened in a rented garage with a secondhand wheel and more eagerness than expertise. Our founder hosted friends on weeknights; those friends invited theirs; the garage gained a kiln, then another wheel, then a waiting list.
Now the school welcomes eight makers at a time across evening and weekend sessions. Each instructor is a practicing potter who throws daily and fires monthly — and each one remembers the first-week wobble clearly, since those early bowls still sit on the office shelf.
How We Teach
Close Groups, True Firings, Candid Feedback
Progress Through Practice
Clay in Hand From Day One
Short demos, then straight to the wheel. You wedge, center and lift clay in your opening session, guided throughout.
Never More Than Eight
Compact enough that your instructor spots each wobble before it settles in — and applauds each recovery.
Gain Kiln Confidence
Glazes Blended On Site
Food-safe, lead-free finishes you layer yourself — always trialed on test tiles before treasured ware.
Firing Mornings Together
Packing and opening the kiln is a shared occasion — the most anticipated morning each month, jitters included.
Open Studio
A Stool With Your Name On It
Course graduates and monthly members enjoy weekly open-studio access: wheels, tools, finishes and kiln room, with a technician nearby. Arrive with a plan, a puzzle, or simply the urge to shape something tangible.
Weeknight sessions run Tuesday to Thursday, weekend sessions on Saturday morning. Clay, tools, aprons and firings come with every course.
The Makers
Taught by Working Potters
Everyone who teaches here throws, trims and fires every week — and remembers their own first wobble.
June, Founder & Thrower
Twelve years at the wheel and two kilns of her own. Leads beginners and still keeps her earliest bowls on the office shelf.
Theo, Glaze & Firing
Blends every studio glaze and runs firing mornings. Leads improvers through taller forms, lids and surface decoration.
Mara, Studio Practice
Guides advanced makers toward independent practice — large forms, kiln loading and finding a rhythm that lasts.
